The 1948 Kurtis KK 2000 was an Indianapolis racing car. I first came across it from the website: The Grand Garage Collectibles, which has some other interesting items you may want to check out as well. My two favorites are 1960 Scarab Gran Prix and the Bentley Barn find. You may be slowly sucked in by the videos, so don’t say I didn’t warn you. I found myself watching all of them right then. I included an excerpt below with a picture from the above website.
History of the 1948 Kurtis KK 2000
Frank Kurtis built the frame and body in 1947. Frank then handed it off to Ralph Taylor and eventually it ended up with Hal Cole. Hal Cole finished the car before the end of 1947. Hal became the first driver of this Kurtis-Kraft Special 2000.
This car participated in a couple Indy 500s. Ultimately newer cars and technology made it too slow to even enter. After a long while, it was restored in July of 2010. Out of all the information, I found on this car this one source seems to be the one that most of the others come from.
Facts or Fiction?
Originally, I shared this as a post regarding the 1948 Kurtis KK 2000 without any other context. Revisiting the post opened up other resources. Of course, I wanted to share my findings with everyone. Many blogs contain truthful information, but also a lot of variances. The origin of most of these posts I believe stems from this one: HISTORY OF CITY OF TACOMA I leave this for you to decide. The name may even be incorrect in the title of my post but seems to get the job done. You can find many nicknames for this special car. 1948 Kurtis Kraft Special 2000 looks to be the correct name in my opinion. The “KK,” I believe stands for Kurtis Kraft. Do you see the problem now? 1948 Kurtis KK 2000 = 1948 Kurtis Kurtis Kraft 2000.
